Only Ten Songs Left

Song Number 89 in our countdown of 100 classical songs was written by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) and is titled La donna e mobile, which translates to “The woman and mobile.” Perhaps it loses something in the translation.

Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (October 9 or 10, 1813 – January 27, 1901) was an Italian composer best known for his operas. He was born near Busseto to a provincial family of moderate means, receiving a musical education with the help of a local patron. Verdi came to dominate the Italian opera scene after the era of Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, and Vincenzo Bellini, whose works significantly influenced him.
